Letting Go describes a simple and effective means by which to let go of the obstacles to Enlightenment and become free of negativity.During the many decades of the author’s clinical psychiatric practice, the primary aim was to seek the most effective ways to relieve human suffering in all of its many forms. The inner mechanism of surrender was found to be of great practical benefit and is described in this book. Dr Hawkins’s previous books focused on advanced states of awareness and Enlightenment. Over the years, thousands of students had asked for a practical technique by which to remove the inner blocks to happiness, love, joy, success, health and, ultimately, Enlightenment. This book provides a mechanism for letting go of those blocks. The mechanism of surrender that Dr Hawkins describes can be done in the midst of everyday life. The book is equally useful for all dimensions of human life: physical health, creativity, financial success, emotional healing, vocational fulfillment, relationships, sexuality and spiritual growth. It is an invaluable resource for all professionals who work in the areas of mental health, psychology, medicine, self-help, addiction recovery and spiritual development.

I found this book to be really helpful, in fact that’s an understatement, it was life-changing for me. All the other reviews, even the negative ones are true – it’s simple, it’s repetitive but somehow this book unlocked some things for me. I find that many times the simplest truths are the most impactful which I would say is true in this case. I do a lot of reading books such as this one by Tolle, Course in Miracles, Deepak Chopra, Easwaran, etc and this one helped put it all together and it made sense in a way that was actionable. When I started reading the book I was very depressed and apathetic. I felt trapped and like I was going thru the motions of every day life but without joy. Right from the beginning of the book it struck a cord with me as he described all of the desperate things people do to try to avoid their feelings. I thought, this is me! It was like holding a mirror up and I saw my sadness and drain of energy to avoid my feelings and at the same time the desperate flailing about looking for anything to help make me feel better. Within the first few chapters I was able to identify some old repressed feelings and just by recognizing they were there, I think it released them. I feel so much better. I equate it to a ball that is being held under water and when it is released it shoots up. That’s what it felt like. But I wondered could it be that simple? I’m learning apparently in my case it can – it seems it is.While it is true that Dr Hawkins doesn’t really describe in detail the actual mechanics of letting go, for me just identifying the emotion, recognizing it was there was enough to release it. I am not sure if this book would have had the same impact had I not done extensive reading of other authors, hard to say, but this one helped all the concepts to coalesce for me.The other thing that I found helpful was the spirit of acceptance and understanding. I no longer feel shame or guilt over my less noble feelings such as jealousy, competitiveness, arrogance, pride, or anger. I can recognize them for what they are as part of my human condition and the programming of my past. I can work thru them without hiding them or the added burden of guilt or shame and release them. That, in and of itself, is a powerful thing and a great gift that I received from this book.I would recommend this book to anyone and hope that it has the same positive, life-changing effect on you that it had for on me.
I bough this book like 15 days ago. I though it was like another self-help book. Now I’m starting to think differently about a lot of things. I’m working or doing any daily task, and I’m thinking about the last pages i read. All this time I was wrong about pretty much everything, and that’s okay. What is the cost of wanting to be right? What i knew and learned from what i was told since a child is now questioned. This book heals just by reading it, you start seeing within like you never did. I’m happy i came across this material.
This book changed my life and offers a process to free yourself from negative thinking that works! I have been working on myself for many years and had read Power Vs. Force some years ago. I also recommend you read Power Vs. Force first, which talks about the evolutionary pattern of how we all spiritually develop, and that will help you understand the framework presented in Letting Go better. Now the framework is repeated in Letting Go as well, but I think it makes more of an impact if you read Power Vs. Force first. Letting Go gives us a process for evolving our emotional and spiritual selves according to that natural, evolutionary pattern explained in Power Vs. Force. Letting Go provides a framework and a process for letting go of old negative emotions, such as guilt, anger, or fear, which frees up our energy, makes us much happier, and lets us evolve spiritually. The book is not religious and can be used with any belief system. The process offers a way to clear negative stuff from the unconscious that is repressed and suppressed, allowing us to experience happiness, which should be our natural state. How many of us can say we are always naturally happy? Yeah. The book says that letting go of negative emotions may also cure chronic illness, of which I had my doubts because it sounded so woo-woo. But over the course of two months I followed the process, which only takes moments a day as old feelings come up — you don’t need to contemplate your navel for hours on end or make a big deal out of it. You need to devote thoughts to the process, but not really time so it is a very easy process to follow and you can do it anytime, while commuting, in the shower, whatever, so it does not take time out of your busy day. For myself, not only is some long-standing general anxiety gone, but a chronic illness has just gone away! I mean, one day it was there as it had been for 10 years, and the next day it was magically gone. Not only that, but I feel much stronger, powerful, more peaceful, and much happier. I look 5 years younger. I have bought this book for Christmas gifts because I think it is better than therapy for just getting happier. Even if you think you have resolved all the traumas in your life, working this process will make you so much more happy and effective. If there is one book you should be reading, it is this one.
Before discovering this book, my life was the complete opposite as to what I feel now. I was chained down by deep negative emotions which ultimately effected every bit of my reality. The worst thing was, I wasn’t even aware of how I felt and why I was doing the things I did. I would plague myself with limiting beliefs. I would worry myself over every little thing and felt fear constantly. I would tense my eyebrows into a frown when I tried to sleep, as if in constant agony. I would feel “off” with the world without even knowing why. Life felt hard and I hated many aspects of it and eventually the pressure of such heavy (and often subconscious) emotions just got too much. I knew change needed to happen. After studying the teachings of Dr David Hawkins in this book (along with his others), my life has been completely changed. I have never felt such deep, profound peace before. Ever. This book inspired me to follow other teachings of the nature of reality, consciousness, emotions, psychology etc… and within a short period of time, my perspective and awareness of the world has evolved exponentially. It is by far the best thing I have ever come across in my life, I am so grateful for this book and everything it has taught me; It is simply not possible to truly describe the expansiveness of life now. The author’s elegant and comprehensible writing style conveys ideas in a way that no hyper-technical knowledge is required in order to understand what is being conveyed. That being said, it is advisable to read it with an open mind, with the intent of wanting to understand and reflect upon what is being said. You may find it a little far-fetched at the beginning, almost surreal at first, but upon further reading and contemplating, you’ll start to understand the true essence of what is being said. The penny drops and it hits you like a tonne of bricks. To anyone wishing for a profoundly deeper connection with your own ‘inner-world’, as well as the outer-world and live a much more fulfilling/magical life, please give this book a go. It is the most incredible piece of work I have ever come across; The level of peace and happiness that can (and has been) be obtained through said knowledge has no boundaries.
The book is full of horrible pseudoscience, for example at one point author questions the existence of viruses. It is scary as some people could stop their life saving treatment by reading this pile of crap.I wanted to learn how to let go of negative emotions, how to move on from the things that bother me and clear my mind so I can focus on the positive things in my life. The first part of the book was manageable, some techniques there seemed to be grounded in psychology and actually work. This is the reason why its such danger to others – as more impressionable people might harm themselves by following the advice in later parts of the book. Why so many 5* reviews? Because of our fear of lack of control, this book tells us that if we ‘Let go’ of negativity or stress, or even later on material possessions we will safeguard ourselves from horrible diseases later in life. We all fear that which we can’t control and this book plays on that. We try to explain it away, so the fear goes away and we feel completely in control – which of course is an illusion and a paradox if you think about what the book is called.Do not get me wrong though – there is plenty of utility in learning on how to let go. I would suggest however that you do not learn it from this book and instead look for other books. There is nothing wrong with believing in life energy and how it all connects us. There is nothing wrong with belief that our mind can cure us or that beliefs can make life easier and aid our recovery from illness. However, those beliefs should never go against modern science and medicine, they should work in tandem. if you believe in God then you should believe that medicine was put here for a reason, that science and researchers who uncover it exist for a reason.Your beliefs should be a supplement to medicine and psychology, not a replacement.
I’m compelled to write the review I wish I had read before wasting my money on this rubbish. Forget any pretence the author may have to be a man of science. This book is complete mumbo jumbo, pseudoscience of the worst kind. Lurches from cliche to cliche. Victim is responsible for their own misfortune. A broken heart leads to heart attack. On and on. Avoid
I never review anything at all, but this book has literally changed my life. For 8 years, I have been in a pit of depression and anxiety but it went beyond that. I experienced a deep loss of sense of self, had numerous health problems, I always felt very off, and I tried to fake or install all these personal development beliefs that I’d read about in other books, or watched on youtube. I’d become a very messed up person with many deep-seated issues. All that self development information I’d read about was correct, but nothing changed until I did the work in this book.Having practiced the teaching in this book for 4 months, I’m convinced that it holds the key to human happiness. The improvement I have experienced has been rapid, intense, frankly to the point of being a little disorienting. I never thought I’d be able to feel normal or happy again like this, and things are getting better and better the more I do this. There is some stuff in the book I don’t really care for. Things about auras, numerical consciousness levels, muscle testing. But you don’t need that, all you need is the technique of letting go, and the understanding that you are not your emotions, that every thought in your head is there to explain the emotion you’re experiencing, and when you let go of the negative emotion, that corresponding thought disappears completely. He explains all this in the book.I beg you. I firmly believe that the more people become better, the better the world becomes as a whole. I’ve read tons of content, listened to thousands of hours of material, but this one technique supersedes it all. Even if you’re unsure, go with this book and stick at the technique for a little while, despite the resistance you might feel. The world will be better for the genuine healing you’ll afford yourself.Quite frankly, I’m waiting for the day that this technique no longer works for me, because I’m stunned at how good it is; it seems too good to be true. Also, I’m not sure if this only works because I’m a ‘F’ (Myers briggs) and am more ‘feeling’ than ‘thinking’. Furthermore, I’m also a little skeptical of David as a person, but that doesn’t matter. He’s stumbled upon this method that is solving any issue I have and I think any issue I will ever have, which sounds insane to say but I’m just being honest.Anyway, sorry for the ramble. Read this book.
Great book, great material.HOWEVER, from a practicality standpoint, many readers may find the question arise: “How do I let go?”Let me help you out, where the writer failed to give a practical stance on doing ‘the work’.1. Sit comfortably, silence the mind with a some deep breaths (give yourself about 5-10 minutes).2. Next, ask some probing questions such as, “what grief, apathy, jealousy am I feeling right now? , “when was the last, and first time i felt these sensations in my body” Continue to focus on your attention on the sensations (tightness, upset, etc) in your body AND breathe into them3. After maximizing the sensations to as much as you possibly can, start visualizing yourself breathing them out and letting them run their course. What i found was that one does not feel happier, but there is a sense of lightness. Eventually in the days coming forward, those sensations will run their course and you will re-experience what you have been meant to process and resolve.I wish you luck on your endeavour to release the past and future anxieties. You will find peace!
