Everyone knows he’s a guaranteed good time—in bed and out—and that’s exactly how he prefers it. Until he meets Hannah Bellinger. She’s immune to his charm and looks, but she seems to enjoy his… personality? And wants to be friends? Bizarre. But he likes her too much to risk a fling, so platonic pals it is.Now, Hannah’s in town for work, crashing in Fox’s spare bedroom. She knows he’s a notorious ladies’ man, but they’re definitely just friends. In fact, she’s nursing a hopeless crush on a colleague and Fox is just the person to help with her lackluster love life. Armed with a few tips from Westport’s resident Casanova, Hannah sets out to catch her coworker’s eye… yet the more time she spends with Fox, the more she wants him instead. As the line between friendship and flirtation begins to blur, Hannah can’t deny she loves everything about Fox, but she refuses to be another notch on his bedpost. Living with his best friend should have been easy. Except now she’s walking around in a towel, sleeping right across the hall, and Fox is fantasizing about waking up next to her for the rest of his life and… and… man overboard! He’s fallen for her, hook, line, and sinker. Helping her flirt with another guy is pure torture, but maybe if Fox can tackle his inner demons and show Hannah he’s all in, she’ll choose him instead?

“sizzles with romance and wit…Bailey expertly captures both the intense chemistry and true friendship between Hannah and Fox as she takes them through humorous mishaps and miscommunication. This sparkling rom-com will have readers hooked.” — Publishers Weekly”Bailey continues the delightful story she began in the hilarious rom-com It Happened One Summer (2021), in which Californian Hannah met fisherman Fox… The music and seaside setting add flavor and color to this delicious, slow-burn love story.” — Booklist“A romantic comedy delight. If you loved Schitt’s Creek, It Happened One Summer will be your absolute jam.” — Christina Lauren, New York Times bestselling author of The Soulmate Equation“I put my entire life on hold the moment I opened It Happened One Summer. I read it in one long, luxurious sitting, reading each page twice, not wanting to miss a moment, and dreading The End. I knew I was reading one of my new favorite books, and I will reread it for years to come, whenever I need a dose of small-town coziness and hard-bodied sea captains. Tessa disarms you with a laugh, heats things up past boiling, and then puts a squeeze inside your heart. The tenderness, vulnerability and heat I am always guaranteed with a Tessa Bailey book are the reasons she is one of my all-time favorite authors.” — Sally Thorne, USA Today bestselling author of Second First Impressions”Her voice feels as fresh and contemporary as a Netflix rom-com… Bailey writes banter and rom-com scenarios with aplomb, but for those who like their romance on the spicier side, she’s also the Michelangelo of dirty talk. She wields filth like Da Vinci does a paintbrush, and there’s a lot to be said for an author who can fill such exchanges with all the requisite heat, enthusiastic consent, and yes, even humor, of such a scenario without veering into corny territory.” — Entertainment Weekly”Two delightful people find both themselves and true love in Tessa Bailey’s sequel to It Happened One Summer, Hook, Line, and Sinker… Bailey is a master at articulating emotion through both narrative prose and dialogue, and readers will feel everything going through the hearts of this charming yet imperfect couple. Every page in this fabulous novel is pure romance gold.” — BookPage (Starred Review)”Bailey’s plot is fast paced with plenty of humor laced throughout. Fox and Hannah are well-developed, likable characters with emotional depth that will resonate; they have a lot to overcome, but readers will be rooting for them.” — Library Journal (starred review & Pick of the Month)”With her singular talent for writing romantic chemistry that is both sparkling sweet and explosively sexy, Tessa Bailey once again delivers—It Happened One Summer is everything I want in a modern romance, with two complicated, appealing leads, a setting that feels lived-in and also fresh, and storytelling you want to sink into even as you can’t stop turning pages. The total package from one of the genre’s very best.” — Kate Clayborn, author of Love at First”Tessa Bailey writes pure magic! It Happened One Summer has everything you could want in a rom-com—heartwarming romance, laugh-out-loud humor, and scorching hot chemistry between the lovable socialite and sexy ship captain. I absolutely loved it!” — Alexis Daria, bestselling author of You Had Me at Hola“Bailey strikes rom-com gold in this outstanding tale… [She] is bound to earn new followers with love scenes hot enough to boil water and a hilariously naïve Schitt’s Creek-inspired protagonist who is clearly out of her depth.” — Booklist (starred review) on It Happened One Summer“I could not stop smiling. Romantic comedy perfection.” — Lauren Layne, New York Times bestselling author on Fix Her Up“What presents itself as a light, sexy beach read transforms into a thoughtful exploration about identity … Come for the fun look at the workings of a film set and the maybe-more-than-friends “Bridgerton”-esque “I burn for you” tension, stay for the smart commentary on toxic masculinity, healing one’s inner child and how others perceive us shapes our own self-understanding.” — USA Today“Readers may be sad to say goodbye to Westport, but they’ll love to watch these two sail off into the sunset … Full of mutual pining and sweetness.” — Shelf Awareness“For readers who have been fans since Bailey’s debut, the love scenes do not disappoint, and the signature antics and comedic scenes that have you laughing and turning pages abound in the novel.” — BookTrib About the Author #1 New York Times Bestselling author Tessa Bailey can solve all problems except for her own, so she focuses those efforts on stubborn, fictional blue collar men and loyal, lovable heroines. She lives on Long Island avoiding the sun and social interactions, then wonders why no one has called. Let me start by saying I absolutely loved It Happened One Summer… so much so that I counted down the months waiting to read its follow-up.Sadly I did not enjoy this. Fox and Hannah seemed light years away from who they were in It Happened One Summer. I never got the impression that Hannah wanted to be the “leading lady” or that she even cared about that. In the first installment she was the cool, not caring what anyone thought, happy to help, little sister- In this story she’s unsure and insecure. Likewise Fox was the cool, ever confident, forever bachelor, best friend. In this he’s again insecure and annoyingly self-loathing. I get giving Characters flaws for depth but it’s like their flaws drowned out all their strengths.Their relationship felt entirely one dimensional. And on top of that there wasn’t much of a plot to cling to. A lot of inner dialogue that felt very repetitive and just became tedious to read. I ended up skimming through several parts. I’m also sad we didn’t get to see them interact more with Brendan and Piper. The whole book is basically them in their heads with a barrage of constant self -deprecation. As far as their relationship, they are friends but 75 percent of the story they are just trying to resist their attraction to one another. I was so annoyed (mainly w/ Fox) that by the time they do get together I didn’t really care.Ugh I’m so sad. I was so excited to read this.
Where do I even start?! This book made my heart ache in the best way possible. While It Happened One Summer was sheer rom-com perfection and one that I was borderline obsessed with, this one took me by absolute surprise. I have to say, I may actually love this book more than the first, which is saying a lot as IHOS set a very high bar. I just really, really LOVED it. I honestly was not prepared for the emotional journey Hook, Line, and Sinker took me on. It’s honestly one of the best friends-to-lovers romance books I’ve ever read, and it’s clear that Tessa Bailey has poured her heart and soul into writing this book.I’ve been impatiently waiting for Fox and Hannah’s love story ever since this couple were introduced in It Happened One Summer and this book seriously delves into their relationship in a way I wasn’t anticipating. The opening to this book was PERFECTION, and it really showcased how their connection was built. I knew after the Fleetwood Mac album moment in IHOS that Fox and Hannah were soulmates, and every single page of this book just proved it. The banter, the angst, and the PINING were all absolute perfection. Their honesty was real and raw, and the depth of their relationship had my heart melting and aching in equal measure, and I don’t think I will ever forget the way they made me feel with their romance. It was the most exquisite slow burn, heartfelt, friends-to-lovers story. And seeing the vulnerable side of Fox affected me deeply. He is such an intricately crafted and complicated character with a depth to him that I never ever saw coming. My heart broke for this beautifully broken man. I’ve never read anything like that from a male character before and I truly appreciated how Tessa Bailey wrote his story. And Hannah, what a beautiful, precious soul. She’s incredibly relatable with big dreams, and I adored her and her love for music. The fierce way she fights for Fox in ways that I’ve never seen a heroine done so before—fights for him to trust her, to believe in her, to keep her. Watching her help Fox realise his true potential and character was absolutely everything. Their relationship and their love is so breathtakingly beautiful that it almost left me breathless.Without a doubt, this one of my top reads and I don’t think I’ll get over this high that Fox and Hannah have put me in for a long, long time. It’s the kind of high I endlessly chase and it’s the kind of book I want to keep on reading forever because I’m so effortlessly and hopelessly in love with the characters and their rich, heartfelt relationship. I’m not ready to leave Westport and the grizzled fishermen who live there. This series will be a forever favourite of mine that I’ll continue to revisit over and over.
It pains me to give this story 2 stars because I truly lovedIt Happened One Summer it was so funny and the chemistry between Piper and Brandon was amazing. Also, I loved Pipers little sister Hannah she was more reserve but feisty and funny, so I couldn’t wait to read Hannah and Fox’s story.I got to 37% of the book and it took me 4 days to get there because I kept stopping. I couldn’t for the life of me get into the story. I found it boring, immature and all over the place. There was no chemistry between Hannah and Fox.In the first book it took me about 11% of the book to like Piper because at the beginning she was spoiled and high maintenance from LA so I thought she would be annoying throughout the book. I was pleasantly surprised that the author quickly made her strong and caring. So I thought Hannah would be more mature and her story would be more intense and maybe let her hair down for a bit with fox. Unfortunately the Hannah from the first book was not the same in this book. She was immature, annoying and a brat. This book was not funny either, so just the opposite from the first one.
I personally feel like the key to a good slow burn is a lot of plot and world-building. This world already existed from IHOS, but instead of these characters existing in that space and finding conflict there, you get characters who spend almost the entire book in their own heads. I kept picturing these people zoned out with their eyes glazed over doing all of this *thinking* while Westport moved around them. Especially Fox, whose maturity is a constant dance between one step forward and eight steps back, over and over again. It was ultimately frustrating and repetitive to read.
Hook Line and Sinker by Tessa Bailey was just a total dream romance book.I couldn’t stop reading this book, and yet I didn’t want it to finish.Tessa is one of my number one OG authors.. She never fails to make me feel all the things, and this book was no exception.I absolutely adored book 1 of this series and couldn’t wait to get back to Westport to see Fox and Hannah again.Fox our handsome playboy fisherman was just an absolute dream. He gave me Jasper vibes (Too Hot to Handle – Tessa Bailey. Highly recommended read) which as one of my all time favourite book hero’s, I couldn’t help but love. He had such deep and intense feelings, and seeing him have to work through everything had me all up in my feels.Hannah was so lovely. Watching her growth through the book was really satisfying. Her view of life and love of music both relatable and endearing. I don’t want to say too much more on the storyline because spoilers.Their connection was intense, but it was almost a slow burn. We didn’t get any series 🔥 time until about 70% in but in true Tessa fashion, when it comes, it sure comes! It was straight up fire, heat, connection.. the ever present dirty talk .. just everything I want and have come to expect from a Tessa book.I loved the prologue and epilogue of this book too. The set up of the prologue launches you straight into where Fox and Hannah are at in an interesting, entertaining way.. and the epilogue is like the cherry on top tying off our time in Westport in the most perfect way. I know that I’ve likely left a little piece of my heart in Westport with these fishermen.Another permanent memorable fave for me.Another smash hit for Tessa!Highly recommend this book.
Friendship and love; do you think a man and a woman can be friends, or there’s always something more?Hannah and Fox have been exchanging messages for the last few months, now it’s time to meet up again, as friends in Westport. Will they surpass their own barriers and follow the sparks between them? Or will they let their fears restrict their dreams forever?I don’t think this is a book from friends-to lovers; I think from the beginning they have feelings for each other but really don’t know how to put words to their thoughts. And I liked how they try to fight the attraction between them and try to fight their fears and barriers before they start something together. Also, it was really nice looking for all the songs and bands that are talked about during the story; it has their own soundtrack! This is the second book of the series “It Happened One Summer”; you can read it as a standalone, but I think these sisters’ stories are worth the read!I really loved how brave Hannah was, she was scared of being ignored in her job or not being good enough; but doesn’t have any problem protecting the ones she loves when she thinks someone is attacking them! Or how she never let the discussions closed, she always tries to solve the problems talking, never let anything midways. And Fox, he has his own problems, he undervalues himself and doesn’t think he deserves anything. Neither a stable relationship or being upgraded in his job. Maybe it’s time to need a little push? This is a story to make you smile and dream; romance, friendship and good music. What more can you need? Are you ready for “Hook, Line, and Sinker”?
You have went and done it again, Tessa.Holy wow.Hannah and Fox are such a power couple. I absolutely adored It Happened One Summer and when I found out this was Hannah’s story, I went on to pre-order immediately – that was in Jan/Feb time and the book arrived when I came back from Portugal this month!I am fast becoming a massive fan of Tessa Bailey, she has the perfect amount of romance and sex, her books just thrill AND grip me.I thought it was a bit of a slow burner between Fox and Hannah, there were times I was shouting for them to just be together and get on with it, become a couple but I did enjoy Fox opening up to Hannah and being real – telling her how he feels etc.I love Fox and Hannah together. I love Hannah, she is a strong-minded woman but feels the burden of reality and life.Another fantastic write from @tessabaileyisanauthor . You are quickly becoming one of my favourites authors.
I don’t like leaving bad reviews, but I also don’t like leaving bad ratings with no explanation. So:This was… not good. The characters didn’t talk like normal people, the dialogue and the narrative was so cheesy and had my cringing so much. The sex scenes seemed like they’d aimed for 50 Shades of Grey cheesiness and managed it. Just… not good. Most of the “chemistry” between the characters (there is no chemistry between the characters) is made by the author making them all “why was he feeling like he liked her when he absolutely did not like her?” And “but she didn’t like him. No no no”… there would’ve been plenty to show the chemistry if all of the telling was left out, but as it is, it was rammed down our throats and I really didn’t care if they got together or not. I’m genuinely not sure how I made it to the end of the book, but I think it would’ve been better to give them a son as well, and shown how Fox wasn’t repeating his parents’ mistakes. Just my two cents’ worth 🤷🏻♀️
My ReviewI loved this book didn’t take me long to read it I was luckily enough to have it on my kindle for a arc and soon as the book came out I bought it for my collection. I love all Tessa Bailey book and I’ve bought and read a few. They a perfect romcom and the author never disappoints you with her book. You thrown into the story with her. Her writing style is amazing and the characters are special and full of chemistry I know everyone going to love this read.
