For a book generally regarded as one for young girls, this is most definitely far beyond that. Besides the 150 year special edition, the relevance today is mesmerizing. Obviously settings are dated (believe it or not, only to some extent), the social interactions and challenges are as relevant today as they were then. The poignancy of family relationships, a father away from the home cradle, the lost love, the pure romance, the death of loved ones – all this is very alive today, in this world influenced by ofttimes destructive technology, addiction and lies. For anyone with a care for humanity this read will bring a tear to your eyes. A bonus is holding this version of publication in your hands, and the weight of it a mirror of the weight of the narrative
This 150th anniversary is a pleasure to read. The original illustrations lend a nostalgia to the experience, and I enjoy the renderings of the sisters as they were originally imagined.
I’m familiar with the Little Women book, but have avoided reading it till now…. I’m 63. Thank heavens for reviews, I had no idea that there were crappy cut-up shorter versions, etc. This one seems to be perfect in all ways. Prompt delivery, beautiful book, original line drawings, full printing of books 1&2 in single binding. Everything seems to be exactly what I wanted. Thank you for this little treasure!!! I will come back to this seller for more books.
My favorite story told in it’s full unabridged version. The artwork is beautiful and reminds you of how poignant this story remains. I’m so glad Amazon was able to offer this gem for sale. I hope they find more of the classics like this one so I can expand my collection.
My father read this book to me and my sisters when we were young, so I never thought it needed to be read again. After an interview I viewed on Amanpour, I ordered this version. It takes about 50 pages to adjust to the “sweet” olde style of writing, then the story takes off, you meet all the girls and just keep reading until the end. It’s both delightful and meaningful.The jewel of this version is that includes the original prints or drawings made for the book. It’s very pleasant to read a book that has illustrations, most novels don’t have them anymore. It’s fun to see how the illustrator envisioned the characters and their activities 150 years ago; so different from how I would see the characters is my mind. You’ll enjoy every minute of the book. It takes you back to another time a place. Keep the book, so you can read it again!
The cover is beautiful and I love the original drawings inside. The book is a great quality. There is something to be said about the actual pages in your hand when you’re reading and this book is just what I wanted.
Actually it didn’t. I thought the description of hundreds of illustrations meant all the color ones over the years…but these are just little ink sketches. Well, it’s all right, but I like good illustrations in pastels or water color or acrylics.
I am very impressed with this 150th anniversary edition. Large trade paperback with dozens of period illustrations. 536 pages. Both parts, so this is the complete text. Some reviews indicated it was not the whole thing. Mine is complete, and at a very reasonable price. I was amazed at Amazon’s speed. I received the book the evening after I had ordered it. Nice 1860s era text.
Bought this as a gift for my sister and loved how the cover of the book looks.It’s a cute book with little illustrations throughout the book(not on every page), Paper back and fast delivery.Only downfall was that the book didn’t sit right. Even when closed you could see the gap in between the middle of the book. Don’t know why but was really annoying as it was a gift and It just didn’t look right! I even placed my laptop on top of it for the whole day and did not make any difference. It’s like it’s permanently opened in the middle of the book.Also it doesn’t have that new book smell, actually it doesn’t smell of anything?Other than that love the book and would recommend a read!
I absolutely loved it, read it for the first time now at 34 years old (shame on me for waiting so long) and it didn’t disappoint me. Only thing: I love sniffing books pages and this book is kind of smell-less!! Please next time make it more aromatic!! There’s nothing better than sniffing the pages of a book you love 🙂
I love this book, I’m currently in England but my cope is still in California so I had to buy s copy for here. It’s a very nice copy with illustrations that are in keeping with the period.

Bought for my daughter as she absolutely loved the new film when it came out, and she then so desperately wanted to read the book!I must say it is a lovely book, with beautiful illustrations dotted throughout it. However I do agree with others that the some of the printing on the pages are not level, but my daughter doesn’t mind!
