Critical Race Theory: The Key Writings That Formed the Movement PDF AZW3 EPUB MOBI TXT Download

What is Critical Race Theory and why is it under fire from the political right? This foundational essay collection, which defines key terms and includes case studies, is the essential work to understand the intellectual movementWhy did the president of the United States, in the midst of a pandemic and an economic crisis, take it upon himself to attack Critical Race Theory? Perhaps Donald Trump appreciated the power of this groundbreaking intellectual movement to change the world. In recent years, Critical Race Theory has vaulted out of the academy and into courtrooms, newsrooms, and onto the streets. And no wonder: as intersectionality theorist Kimberlé Crenshaw recently told Time magazine, “It’s an approach to grappling with a history of white supremacy that rejects the belief that what’s in the past is in the past, and that the laws and systems that grow from that past are detached from it.” The panicked denunciations from the right notwithstanding, CRT has changed the way millions of people interpret our troubled world.Edited by its principal founders and leading theoreticians, Critical Race Theory was the first book to gather the movement’s most important essays. This groundbreaking book includes contributions from scholars including Derrick Bell, Kimberlé Crenshaw, Patricia Williams, Dorothy Roberts, Lani Guinier, Duncan Kennedy, and many others. It is essential reading in an age of acute racial injustice.

  • I am just wondering about people who made the negative comments. It’s seem as if you have people out there who wrote comments, to throw people off. Either they are working to subvert the work on critical race theory or they are completely not educated on the topic. We have people today, who seeks to change the truth because it does not fit their world!
  • After a disputatious encounter over what Critical Race Theory was all about, I decided to educate myself and ordered this book. In accord with my claims, this establishes the concept of Critical Race Theory as a study by law school scholars into the history of governmental actions that created, expanded, and reinforced the division of Americans into the powerful and the powerless. It in no way deals with the day-to-day racism in interpersonal dealings nor with the development of a public school curriculum that focuses on past injustices with regard to disenfranchised citizens. It is clear that the the opinion makers have chosen to define Critical Race Theory in a form much removed from its original findings and then set about to attack CRT by savaging the straw man that they created. It’s doubtful that they have spent much, if any, time reading these germinal articles written between 1975 and 1995. No one should opine on the subject until they have read these profound thoughts and verifiable observations. My only quarrel with the book is that it doesn’t clearly delineate between desegregation and integration. Bussing students in the 1970s was court-ordered desegregation. Integration is a learned and voluntary action by all players.Added later. I find it to be revealing that none of the critical reviews are verified purchasers. That goes to my point that they are misled by media misrepresentations and have made no efforts to inform themselves.
  • When you try to teach that everything is racist, you show your own racism. Marxist claptrap at it’s finest.
  • For serious scholarly work, this is uncitable; it is an edited work from previously published works. The format of this work does not display the text in a manner that can be cited from the original sources.
  • I have only read and discuss one of the many writings, so far. I really appreciate & admire the critical analysis provided. I’m not a lawyer nor versed in philosophical thoughts, so it takes a minute for me to fully absorb and digest these discussion. I welcome the mental exercise I’m getting in being able to effectively address systemic racism which enables me (us) to develop and discuss ideas to put Death 2 Racism.
  • A stunning collection of essays and writings from leading legal scholars. There is so much genius in this book and it ultimately explained so much and changed the way I think. It challenged me to question everything, including the questions, and expanded my ability to consider the most important issues we’re grappling with today.
  • This text is definitely a must when engaging theories pertaining to African American studies.
  • One of the most intellectually engaging and challenging—though highly entertaining!—texts I’ve ever read. I’m so glad I bought it and introduced myself to the movement!
  • Fantastic book, fantastic delivery, very good condition. Thanks!
