Spiegelman’s startling comic about the Holocaust, which revolves around his survivor father’s experiences, won a 1992 Pulitzer Prize. Copyright 1992 Reed Business Information, Inc. Review “The most affecting and successful narrative ever done about the Holocaust.”—The Wall Street Journal”Maus is a book that cannot be put down, truly, even to sleep. When two of the mice speak of love, you are moved, when they suffer, you weep. Slowly through this little tale comprised of suffering, humor and life’s daily trials, you are captivated by the language of an old Eastern European family, and drawn into the gentle and mesmerizing rhythm, and when you finish Maus, you are unhappy to have left that magical world.”—Umberto Eco”In part two of Maus, Art Spiegelman finishes his masterpiece . . . You can’t help witnessing—even feeling—the act of private pain being transformed into lasting truth.”—The Boston Globe”One of the most poweful and original memoirs to come along in recent years . . . An epic story told in tiny pictures.”—The New York Times From the Publisher “Maus is a book that cannot be put down, truly, even to sleep. • I feel ignorant that I had never heard of Maus before Tennessee banned it in schools. I ordered the book right away as a protest. The second book arrived first and I went ahead and read it after reading articles about the first one. I don’t regret having read it first. I’m an avid reader and this is one of the very best books I’ve ever read. The pictures add so much more than if it had just been in writing.
  • This is a wonderful series of books! I have read them many times and still enjoy them! I recommend them to everyone!
  • Tough read, only due to the subject. Everyone should know what happened in the past.
  • My dad had these books in his collection since college. Over the years they have been borrowed from him and disappeared. So when I asked to borrow them to see why we’re being banned, he bought me a set. The most honest and dark graphic novels I have ever owned.
  • It’s in great condition. One tiny sticker that came right off with a little goo-gone and nones the wiser.
  • For those who enjoyed MAUS 1, they will love MAUS 2. Where MAUS 1 was more about what happened to Vladek Spiegleman, MAUS 2 is a story of how the holocaust impacted the people who experience it and via them, those who only heard about it. MAUS 2 clearly seems like a sequel made after great consideration. This time round, Art Spiegelman has drawn a narrative which highlights the tension between him and his father… his father who survived the holocaust by his wits but walked out of it more risk averse and afraid of the rest of his life and the son, Art, who feels the pain and misery of his fathers story but never seems to truly know how his father has been changed by the ordeal. The MAUS series should be read in every history classroom. It creates a world which words only cannot every construct. The younger generation has to be able to ‘see’ the holocaust with their own eyes to truly understand the suffering millions of innocent Jews had to face, just because Hitler was a maniac.
  • This is a moving and thought provoking story in the WWII. Honest and moving
  • I bought and read this when is first came out. I have given away several copies and now that some schools are closed minded enough to ban the book will make sure I have more to give to others. If one looks at the books that are banned, one often finds the most important ideas. Banning thoughts only creates a world of stupidity.
  • If you’ve read the first one you’ll be amazed by this one
  • Forget all you know about comics. The is literature without peer in the struggle to find a way to respond to the Shoah that has poisoned Europe this century. Art Spiegleman tells his father’s story in such a way as to reveal the grief of the post-Holocaust generation. The pictures are the most perfect black-and-white, the issues never so. Beautiful drawings in the tradition of European woodcuts, horror in the tradition of our dark continent. Everyone on Earth should read this book.
  • Everyone should read this wonderful book. Tragic story but so vividly drawn and written.
  • Involving and heartbreaking story, beautifully illustrated. Brilliant conception which even with a wealth of information available everywhere about the holocaust, manages to shock with some of its scenes. A masterpiece.
  • Very quick delivery. Excellent book. Must read.
