  • I normally don’t leave reviews because of time constraints, but this one is an exception. Nigel Palmer’s book is top-shelf material in my personal library because it outlines everything I need to break free from commercial fertilizers, even organic ones… I have been an organic gardener for almost 50 years, and this book has the kind of information that is missing from most books and websites. It does a great job of explaining soil biology in practical terms which helps me to better formulate my homemade fertilizers. The appendixes are crammed with useful charts and information: a handy summary of the amendment recipes in the book; optimal soil mineral amounts; plant mineral deficiency indicators; amendment mineral analysis; and refractive index brix scales (what the brix readings of different plants would be to show poor/avg/good/excellent quality).I was pleasantly surprised to also find lots of information about using an inexpensive refractometer to measure plant health and to evaluate the nutritional content of fruits and vegetables (fun and enlightening to compare storebought produce and homegrown!).
  • The recipe on pages 150 to 153 with photo’s alone is worth the price of the entire book.I couldn’t stop reading. I will be recommending this book to all my gardening buddies.
  • I’m sure this book includes a lot of information that is useful if you understand the jargon. If you have a doctorate in something related to botany, you’ll probably find it very useful.I doubt I’ll be able to discern anything from it, as a beginning gardener without a significant background in science. It would be nice if it were written to be accessible to more people.
  • I learned of this book while watching permaculture / organic gardening YouTube videos… it was highly recommended by Huw Richards and other organic gardening gurus. This book is an amazing resource… it’s not only educational, but provides practical methods for improving soil and plant health.
  • This book will serve the needs and interests of almost any gardener. The information is well written but for the beginning gardener I would recommend taking notes or using sticky notes to make re-referencing easier. There is lots of information. Read what is relevant to your project(s) and then apply it. An excellent book.
  • Great book
  • Nigel Palmer is a genius with plants… I was blessed to have been able to take a year long class taught by him, and to witness his methods in action, and then apply them to my own massive food garden and permaculture plantings. His techniques are AMAZINGLY well researched, founded in science, and grounded in the laws of nature. I am recommending this book to all gardeners I know… this isn’t the same old gardening advice with a new cover and a catchy name. This will dramatically alter the way you see and care for your plants for life. The rave reviews from well respected gurus of the holistic/permaculture/fermentation world oughta speak volumes, but if that wasn’t enough to convince you, I hope you’ll take my word for it and give Nigel’s book a look. You won’t regret it 💙
  • I’ve been organically gardening for decades but I got this book because it talked about ways to improve the land with products that are naturally on the land. In short how to improve soil on a shoe string budget. Even in the beginning the information as he lays the ground work for understanding blew my mind. I think it is a must-have book for gardeners of all ilk. Under all lay the land and we are its custodians.
  • As an author, gardener and permaculturalist myself, I don’t take it lightly when I say this is one of the most informative yet practical books for gardeners that I’ve read in a long time. It is packed with examples, with context, with research. I appreciate that Nigel Palmer has paid so much on getting many of his wonderful ammendments tested in labs for nutrients, which can all be found in a very helpful Appendix E. There is no fluff, and you’ll need to read some parts a few times because every read through you learn something new! This is going to transform the way I garden, and save me a ton of money in the process.
  • Regenerative Agriculture =Soil science + Plant science + Organic Movement + Korean Natural Farming + No Till/No DigThe intuitions of eg. Organic Farming/Gardening have been matched by the new Microbial Soil Science. This book is a definitive gardener’s guide. For more background see Nicole Masters’ book ‘For the Love of Soil’ – available as audiobook on Audible. – – -Bought at £14.22, with free Prime delivery.Item was delivered on-time, as-described, and suitably packaged.
  • At last the information on mineral and biological amendments I’ve been looking for and all backed up with the relevant science.I recommend this book to all serious Permaculture Designers wanting to improve their understanding of holistic regenerative growing.
  • I’m embarrassed to say I paid for this claptrap. Some of the ideas about ground cover and ecosystem maintenance are interesting but it is mixed with quite a lot of irrelevant mysticism. My advice would be to save your pennies and find a cheaper way to prop up that wonky table (I wish I had).
  • Essential information for anyone wanting to grow their own food. Goes into great detail about soil and why plants grow the way they do. Worth the mental effort to get through the more scientific parts. Also good practical information.
