This code applies to all buildings except detached one- and two-family dwellings and townhouses up to three stories. The 2018 IBC contains many important changes such as: Accessory storage spaces of any size are now permitted to be classified as part of the occupancy to which they are accessory. New code sections have been introduced addressing medical gas systems and higher education laboratories. Use of fire walls to create separate buildings is now limited to only the determination of permissible types of construction based on allowable building area and height. Where an elevator hoistway door opens into a fire-resistance-rated corridor, the opening must be protected in a manner to address smoke intrusion into the hoistway. The occupant load factor for business uses has been revised to one occupant per 150 square feet. Live loads on decks and balconies increase the deck live load to one and one-half times the live load of the area served. The minimum lateral load that fire walls are required to resist is five pounds per square foot. Wind speed maps updated, including maps for the state of Hawaii. Terminology describing wind speeds has changed again with ultimate design wind speeds now called basic design wind speeds. Site soil coefficients now correspond to the newest generation of ground motion attenuation equations (seismic values). Five-foot tall wood trusses requiring permanent bracing must have a periodic special inspection to verify that the required bracing has been installed. New alternative fastener schedule for construction of mechanically laminated decking is added giving equivalent power-driven fasteners for the 20-penny nail. Solid sawn lumber header and girder spans for the exterior bearing walls reduce span lengths to allow #2 Southern Pine design values.

  • This is a bootleg copy of the book, sold by Bookwalletxe. Will come bound like code but images are dark and hard to read and obviously NOT a legit copy. Returning and will buy through ICC.
  • I have a classmate that told me to not buy this paper back version because hers “Exploded ” pages came apart but was to late the order was made and it was at home. I got mine and surely enough open the book and came apart few pages like in the picture, book is just a week old. Hardly opened. My advise if you buy make sure you dont open the book more dan 90 degrees angle. The pages glued to the cover will start to come off.
  • The IBC code came as advertised at a very reasonable price. Previous editions I have bought may have had better quality control in the printing than this one. There appeared to be some printing bleed over from what appeared to be the previous pages. This occurred on a few pages here and there were the ink may not have fully dried before binding the book. However, the book is quite legible and will do the job. The price for my code more than outweighs any issues with the printing not being perfect.
  • The binding was no good and the pages where not as clear as they should be. The one I purchased was less than fifty dollars in price. The 100 dollar plus version should be a real version. At least I hope so. All of the other poor review most certainly are connected to the reduced priced version I received.
  • This product was not new, there was damage to the fore edge and spine. The front and back covers were scratched and worn. The printing is poor quality with extra ink markings. The binding is already releasing, this book won’t stay together long. When you pay over $140 for a book you would expect for it to be pretty impressive, this is poor quality. Wish I didn’t need it for certification studying.
  • The printing quality is sub-par but the real issue is that the binding started to break and fall apart within a few weeks. We have used this volume only a few times and already there is a section of pages that fell out and a larger portion that has separated from the back binding. In retrospect, it seems better to go to the International code council website, spend a little more and get a quality volume from them that will last for years
  • By law I have to have it with me on sites, but it’s pretty overpriced. Especially considering how often they are updated and must be replaced. In this day and age, have access to a PDF version (perhaps a subscription to keep up with updates?) seems as though it would be a more cost effective and more functional solution.
  • As an Architect, I use the code references every day.The 2018 issue of the IBC has all the latest revisions to the building codes.It is very useful for architecture, engineering, and construction.
