Nothing like the 2017 NEC! I was expecting this to be the same book of electrical professionals; instead the NFPA decided to print and distribute this Mickey Mouse BS. There’s watermarks in the middle of almost every page, as if someone was making illegal xerox copies. Several smudges and discolorations. I tried hard to look for a legit copy, and the ratings seemed okay on this product. But needless to say I am floored at how bad the 2020 code looks. If yours looks like this, please join me in addressing this to the NFPA. They collect our money every three years for a mandatory freaking book. The best they can do is do a half decent job at it.
There are several notable differences in the quality of this book from the 2017- the most glaring are the huge obnoxious watermarks in the centers of the pages. It’s telling that they didn’t intend for this to be an easy or pleasant text to read/reference because of this and the poor print quality. The text is over-bold, the prefab hi-lighting is very dark and the paper quality is left wanting. The binding is also rather shoddy, even for a paperback. These are supposed to be professional reference materials, and honestly I haven’t seen a book so poorly put together since the plastic spiral bound booklets made by teachers in grade school. The NFPA should be ashamed of this volume, and perhaps have a serious discussion about the approval processes when they received their printing proof. To look at this and say “This is fine” is reminiscent of the meme of a dog in a burning house.
Print was faded looked like a Xerox copy. When book was cut edges were left on some pages. Binding already breaking away. Double printing on some pages. Was given a refund but I have been purchasing NEC for 6 times now and have never seen such a poorly printed and processed book.
I am required to have a code book with me when I take my continuing education code class for my electrical contractor’s license. The 2020 code book has many changes from the 2017 book. I shall write about some of the changes on my blog at MrElectrician TV
Bought the NEC 2020 with Prime from Amazon.com listed as seller. Paid extra for that. Price was about $20 more than lowest price advertised for the book. Shown as NEW.NOT A GOOD ITEM.-Packaged like amateurs. I get that….busy, lots of packages, not a problem.-Item looks like it is used. Scratches, dings, marks, etc. Might be from bad packaging. OK, is what it is.-Got SPIRAL bound. Wanted normal copy. Ehhh…not what I wanted but I guess I can deal with it.-Each page has an NFPA logo “copied” on the center of the page. What is this, a photocopy of a real book?!?! Not really cool. Some pages worse than others. Annoying to say the least.Overall just not very happy with it. Yes I read other reviews of this book, but I thought I was safe with the “direct from Amazon.com/seller” method. Guess not.Should have spent the extra $20 to get it direct from NFPA, or Barnes & Noble or elsewhere. Go figure.
This book is very thorough. It is NOT a study guide but in fact a codebook with all the updates to the 2017 national electric code.
If you are like me, you have to have this for work. You’ve bought multiple editions over the years. I think I’m on my 5th one now? Anyway, this is by far the worst edition I’ve ever had to work out of. The paper stock is single ply thin, and the printing is of general poor quality and occasionally smudged. The highlighting is far too dark, the gradients on the headings are grainy and poorly done, and the watermark on every page is obnoxious and distracting when trying to read already small, poor quality printing. This edition looks like the NFPA took the lowest bid from the most cut rate printer and called it a day, and they’re going to keep doing this since we can’t use the digital editions on the various licensing and qualification tests we have to take.
Package showed up on time was no damage. Was xactly as described on Amazon. This was one of the better books I’ve gotten in the past I’ve had pages stuck together with faded letters. As well is printing going sideways. This book however I’ve looked about through half of it and it is perfect.
