I have been looking for beginner books JUST like these for almost a year. I am ordering more after I post this review. My son is in kindergarten, learning sight words and these are perfect.
As a parent, I’m really happy with these. After kindergarten, my son was a low-average reader, despite us working on reading a couple hours a week all year. I tried these to see if a whole-language approach worked better for him, and it really does! We started at the A level, and he’s now halfway through a box of c-level readers! The stories are mildly interesting to me, which is pretty good considering the limitations of the level, and the books don’t get too difficult too quickly. Now that he’s in first grade, our goal is to do 15-30 minutes of him reading a day and then 15-30 minutes of me reading to him.The books come with a helpful tip sheet, but I recommend parents:- be sure you are pronouncing the synthetic phonics correctly (e.g., “h” is /h/ not /huh/),- picture walking really helped my son be more comfortable,- pointing out hard words in advance and helping him sound out the phonemes,- have him look at the beginning and end of the words and use context to guess (that might not feel like reading, but my main goal is to help him not feel frustrated while he works).- after he has read the set, he can reread them to earn five bonus minutes of screen time for each book he reads (this is very popular).Anyway, if anyone else has a kid who loves stories and being read to, but hates reading, I recommend starting with this series and slowly working through them.
Awesome I love these and the words are easy enough for my little ones to learn.
I was so excited to add this to my classroom library for the students. Almost 100% of my first graders are behind in their reading. It’s very hard to find books that match their reading level that are interesting to them and something they can successfully read on their own while in reading stations. I have found something that keeps them engaged and excited to read everyday! These are perfect!
These are perfect for kindergarten readers. Easy words, short sentences, only a few pages, and bright pictures that help with the words. The only complaint is these are really thin. The paper and the covers are not very sturdy so these aren’t for kids that won’t be careful.Beware of the price. These are really only worth about fifty cents per book.
Love these books. Full of sight words, easy words that can be sounded out and repetitive patterns. Great pictures to help. The only reason I am giving this 4 stars is because the books are very similar to the level A books. Some are easier than the level A. I’m going to order level C soon to see if they are a bit more challenging to help my daughter progress her reading level.
I bought all three sets (A-B-C). My kids are very proud of themselves for being able to pick out a book from the set, go to one of the beanbag chairs in my reading area, and tackle the book all alone before asking me for help. Tickles me to no end.
Simple to read and teach! I can see using these as soon as a toddler is ready to sit and look at pictures. The 25 books touch on many concepts; big and tiny, counting, shapes, self care, vehicles, things that jump and more. Great bonding activity for family members who don’t have loads of time to offer the youngest members of the household..
Lovely little books.
I ordered A and B at first and later purchased C. My daughter is year 1 and is does improve her confidence in reading. Also, matches the level and the tricky words they are learning at the moment in school. Happy customer!
Perfect for children and Scousers
Great for little readers and short little stories for little ones to read.
Not quite sure if it’s american english or uk. Since I ordered it from Amazon uk I expected it to be uk english but encountered som us spelling. Haven’t read all the stories yet though. Otherwise does the job of helping a child learn to read very well
