I like the books. The only thing I find extremely disappointing and misleading and would warn parents of is that the content in the books 6-7 & 7-8 is almost exactly identical. The only difference is the the way the 1st page of each week. 6-7 Summer Book offers multiple choice as opposed to written fill in answers for the 7-8 Summer Book(See attached pics, can also see part of another page below page one that shows exact curriculum. Other than that the answer keys are direct. The curriculum easy to read for my son and allows me to give him a packet a week without opposite page needing to be retained for continued subject or subsequent pages of instruction which I have to do in other books I’ve ordered. Good if you feel like you want your kid to recover the content over two summers, not so much for me since my son pretty much knew the content the 1st time and I have him make corrections so just seems like a waste of money! I would have liked more challenging curriculum content to better prepare him for 8th grade.
Immediately after receiving it my DD started using it. It’s a great revision book, a little plain for younger kids but definitely meet it’s purpose. The only things I would recommend adding are TIPS ( other way to help solve problems easily), RETEACHING boxes ( help kids remember formulas, give clues, explanation of various technical words). My DD said she wishes It was more bright (more colors), a place to put stickers after completion, and she was disappointed this book didn’t even have any stickers in the first place like previous books. Bottom line the book is fine but too plain; kids still need to be motivated to work no mather the age.
I haven’t finished this yet as I work through this with someone who’s going to be in 8th grade next year, but it at least is up to Texas state standards, and a bit more if anything. The variety of subjects and assignments are great, and it helps to refresh their minds as well as help you see where they might struggle. Most of the book is generally a review of pertinent 7th grade concepts that they will need to utilize in the future, but a number of the sections (probably about 1/5) of them will be confusing and hard to understand for the average 7th grader.Granted, this workbook is only going to take up about 15-30 minutes of your pre-teen’s time, but it’s fine. One star off is because some of the math problems don’t specify how they want the question answered, or give examples, and some of the language arts activities are a little difficult or not cohesive. Due to this, the student may not be able to do these on their own and may need dictionaries or internet help or adult assistance. As long as you have the time to take a look and help them out, then I would certainly recommend these books.
The first day’s exercise almost made us give up on the workbook. There was an exercise on when to use the Oxford comma – even my English major wife had no idea why certain adjectives did not require commas. We had to Google the answer because the book didn’t have the explanation. My daughter said it was closer to elementary school than 7-8th grade. If they were not too easy, they were to ambigous. The answer key has absolutely no guidance to the answers.
I bought this for my child who is going into the 8th grade. The work pages have great problems and provides an answer key. I only gave it 3 stars since I am not good at algebra and it does not have any examples on how to solve the problems, so it is a little difficult to show my child how to do a problem if I am struggling as well. Otherwise, it is a good learning tool.
I was looking for something to bridge the gap in our district’s version of online schooling for my child. This book does that and tries hard to remain simple. But in the attempt for simplicity, there is confusion. Bottom line is, be ready to look some stuff up! There are limited explanations for the assignments. You definitely need to have some background knowledge of certain concepts–or at least know where to find explanations online. You also definitely need the time to dedicate to finding external resources and time to explain them to your child. That said, it is filling the gap.
The book was waiting on the front porch today when the kids got home from their last day of school so we are prepared for Day 1 of summer vacation. Just flipping through it looks like an amazing tool to keep brains active this summer and skills sharp to go back to school come August. Various online codes for other activities besides what is in the book as well that will help tremendously with keeping my kids on track this summer.
Purchased this workbook along with the 6-7th grade book to prepare my 11 year old daughter for the next grade over the summer. Figured I’d purchase the 7-8th grade workbook too, she will attend 8th grade once she’s finished with 7th grade so I wanted to be prepared for next summer. I always try to be ready for what’s to come. The workbooks have math, read comprehension and vocabulary all the things students need to keep fresh in their brains over the summer.
There was little to no review or any examples to help with the questions and the activities seemed to be pretty advanced…but if a child didn’t need any review or examples then it would be great
Books is very useful for preparing kids to gr8
Great
A good review of courses!
Thanks
