I am a big fan of this Author. Her books are relatable and easy to use with any grade level. I used her original book “Our class is a family”, to open up the school year this year. It brought a sense of unity and a scope of our common goal into my virtual space. I can’t wait to use this book next year, as my first week introduction.Also, I had the pleasure of having Mrs. Olsen visit with my class. Her affection with the students was wonderful. She got them moving and engaged. It was the best virtual experience I could have given my class in this crazy school year. If you have the books, schedule a visit you will not regret it. It is worth every penny.I also use these book at home. My daughter is 4 and can read My class is a family to me word for word. I was also able to schedule an author visit for her class, because they study authors, a new one each month. Her teacher was so grateful , and thought it was the best experience she could have given the children in Pre-k to foster their love for writing.So from pre-k to third grade the book is relatable and relevant for all!!!
As a first grade teacher of 30 years, reading this book brought tears to my eyes and goosebumps up and down my arms! Shannon Olsen has hit it OUT OF THE PARK….AGAIN… with this AMAZING book for kids! She has captured the heart of every teacher I know, and put into words what we all would like to say every day to the many students who share our classrooms with us. This will be one of those classroom read-alouds that your students are going to want to hear over and over again… and you are going to be more than happy to oblige!
This story is so cute! It is written from the perspective of a teacher welcoming their students to school on the first day (or any day at the beginning of the year), and you get the fun surprise of signing YOUR name at the end of the book like it really was a letter from you to your students!The message of this book is so thoughtful, and you can tell that the author is a teacher that truly LOVES her students. I am definitely going to read this book to my kids next year and for many years to come! This goes well with Shannon Olsen’s other book, Our Class is a Family, and I love getting book companions and inspiration from her Instagram @LifeBetweenSummers and TpT store Life Between Summers.Thanks for another favorite! What a beautiful book that expresses how teachers feel on the first day of school, and how teachers do more than just teach reading and math! Before any academic teaching can be done, a safe and nurturing environment must be established and personal connections must be made. This book perfectly sums up all that teachers hope, dream, and wish for their students each year. I highly recommend this book to all teachers; what a great way to set the tone for a successful and positive year. I can’t wait to read it to my future students!
I love nothing more than creating a lasting and strong connection with my kiddos! Reading this book gave me all the feels and I can’t wait to share it with my kids! I always ready a few books to them and introduce my “I wish my teacher knew jar” then I invite them to write me a letter that only I see! They can tell me anything they want but I encourage them to tell me their fears and celebrations! Their glows and grows for themselves and how they feel about me and what they want from a teacher! I learn so much from this simple task! I love adding this book to that moment in my classroom!
This author and illustrator duo did it again!! This is an amazing and heartfelt book. It really gives you all those wonderful feelings as an educator, but it also reminds the kiddos that they are so loved by their teacher. I absolutely loved Our Class is a Family, but I might have to say that this one might even top it! I cannot wait to get a hold of this book in my hands and share it with the kids.
Through reviews and publicity of this book I interpreted it as a book you would read to your current class to prep them for the following year. However it appears to be one that you read to your new class on their first day of school. The book is also very flimsy and considering the price, I expected more.
Brilliant book, with such a lovely message. I am so happy to have come across this book via the teaching community on Instagram. I’m looking forward to sharing it with my class in the Autumn, and establishing a caring classroom community. Gorgeous illustrations too!

A lovely book for my tiny ones starting back school, disappointed in the damage at the bottom of the book.
Book arrived on time in good condition. This book is for an educator who will be teaching at the kindergarten level. I like how the illustrator drew the pictures using different colours and designs to spark a wide range of interests for young children to experience when first starting thier education journey in an effort for children to reach for the stars and seek out their full potential. Very age appropriate. I like how the author used larged sized letters to make it easy for the reader to read the pages to the children. This book promotes diversity and inclusion for all. I reccomend this book to anyone.
