  • I was delighted to receive this sixth edition last week… only to get a headache after reading less than a page of introduction, from the unreadable grey paper, which PMI calls “anti-counterfeit print technology” and uses to prevent unauthorized copies of the book. Unfortunately, this “technology” includes light and large words and also prevents from reading the book… I would recommend you not to buy this book until they print it on another type of paper.
  • The anti-reading, anti-copying paper makes the PMBOK Guide unreadable. Does PMI make any accomodation for people that cannot read it in this format?Buyer beware, this is not your parent’s PMBOK Guide. It is not readable.
  • Like it or not, the Project Management Institute created a cash cow for the Project Management profession much like the IT industry and their certifications. You pay to play, and in this case, you keep paying and pay more. These updates keep the cash flow going for PMI and the supporting industry who make money helping you get your coveted PMP certification. Having been in the game since the 4th Edition, I have seen mostly happy-to-glad changes. In the 6th Edition, PMI has gone out of their way to make the text difficult to read with a number of “technologies” to prevent copying. On the digital version you can download from PMI if you are a member, has a “Not For Distribution, Sale, or Reproduction” watermark across every page. That is extremely distracting but wait, there is more. No printing or, copying text either. For educators like myself, that is frustrating when you need to update your instructional material. The hard copy I received from Amazon, besides have different content (The PMI digital download comes with Agile Practice Guide while the Amazon version come with Standard for Project Management), has grey pages and micro printing on every page to prevent, you guessed it, copying. That makes it harder to read.I understand PMI’s concerned for protecting their copyrighted material and maintain cash flow, but as a general reader, all the watermarks/gray pages make this book distracting and difficult to read. That gets PMI a 1-star.Content wise, it is pretty much happy to glad changes. Okay, I’m glad Time management is now Schedule Management and Human Resource Management is now Resource Management and you now Monitor Stakeholders and not Control Stakeholders. Adding the “Standard for Project Management” to the document is redundant and stupid.
  • This book is very useful while preparing for the PMP exam but don’t plan on reading it like a normal book. It is a *guide* and not a novel. After getting through the first three chapters, I found myself stumbling through Chapter 4 only because it went from one process to the other within integration management and not in real life order like this: 4.1 Develop Project Charter followed by 13.1 Identify Stakeholders. So, if you’re not familiar with the *actual* order of the processes, you will get confused reading sequential chapters 4, then 5, then 6 and so on because real life project management isn’t liner like this and I don’t think the authors of the PMBOK meant for people to read it straight through. I’d suggest reading Chapter 1-3 first then stop. Read the Standards (Part 2 of the book towards the back) then stop. Now, go back through with an understanding of the real order of things and use Chapters 4-13 as a *guide* to refer back to as you understand and learn to apply all of the ITTOs, etc. outline in great detail in each process group.
  • I ordered it to see if it was as the others said and hard to read. The grey pages were not the problem, it was the anti-counterfeit print technology that acted like a trompe l’oeil and kept popping out at me. As one of the others had mentioned it was very distracting when I was reading and hurt my eyes after a while. I am returning the hard copy and see how it goes with the Kindle version.
  • Good content, but the watermarks on every single page make the effort to read a technical book that much more difficult. I often find myself distracted by the watermarks when trying to focus. Perhaps the digital version is easier to read.
  • The watermarks make this very hard on the eyes to read. Should of just sent it back.
  • Suggest that you save your money and do not buy a book that you will have diffeculty seeing the content on the page. It will cost me too much moeny to return the book as I bought it from PMI book store and an currently outside the US. I am hoping that I can save some of you from wasting your hard earned dollars on buying the printed book . I am not sure what the kindle version is like but I hope they have better luck.
  • This has only just arrived but I was concerned by some earlier reviews that said the book is difficult to read. Yes it is printed on grey paper but it is very clear, the diagrams are all in white and are equally clear. I have attached a diagram from the book which is of the same quality as all of them. Maybe the reviews were of a previous edition, or a reprint has taken place. Anyway, I am pleased with it.
  • Students – stick to the PDFs on your kindles. That’s less of a pain.As usual with these “security features” that “look good on paper”, they only serve to annoy legal, paying customers, and are absolutely no problem for people that want to make an illegal copy. Especially given that perfectly clean DRM free PDFs are easy to come by – and all interested parties pay for membership of PMI anyway (and get a legal version with their membership). What a fail!I paid for the printed version for the ease of reading. I have not received that.P.S. the scanner that I have used cost me 25gbp new (on amazon, verified purchase), and it is in no way “high end”.
  • Don’t buy this book, very poor quality of Book. Not properly binded and images and diagrams are also fuzzy overall in the book. Beeing from a printing background I can guarantee these books are scrap or bad copies which is sold in half price due to low printing standards and quality.
  • Physical Product – Not what I expected for the money, I assumed there would have been some colour in the book but sadly not. The quality of the paper is below averageProduct Content – looks good, only had a short flick through the book but appears to contain all the good stuff I was hoping for
  • This is a great reference books for CPAM and PMP learning/examinations. Have dropped a star due to the wafer thin pages and print that is sometimes difficult to read (as other reviews have rightly highlighted!). For the exams, I would recommend practice exam question books, which are a plenty on Amazon!
