A stint writing for computer magazines led to him writing Windows For Dummies, published in October 1992. Since then the book has seen 18 editions published and sold millions of copies. When not helping people find the Start button, Andy enjoys bird watching and playing ukulele. Read more <div id="

  • This is not a terrible guide to Windows 11, it’s just not an excellent one.The most noticeable deficiency I noted was a lack of attention to the most significant changes between Windows and Windows 11. The most glaring example of this is the absence of any discussion about the behavior of the context menus when you right mouse click. For those who who are unaware, the Windows 11 context menus are severely truncated. If you are an experienced Windows user, the need to use an extra mouse click in Windows 11 to display all the context menus will rapidly become annoying. Pro tip: do yourself a favor, go online and search for the registry edits that will revert your Windows 11 context menus to the way they appeared in earlier versions of Windows). At a time when many PCs are being built without optical drives, this book discusses creating and copying CDs and DVDs at great length. This book seems to assume that its readers will adopt the default Windows 11 email and contacts client (cleverly called Mail and people), while ignoring the possibility that Windows 11 users might use web-based email, or a desktop client like Outlook or Thunderbird. The lack of discussion of sustaining use of these email services is disappointing.I didn’t notice any obvious errors in this book, but as an experienced user of earlier versions of Windows, I didn’t learn much either.
  • Any manual or instruction book can tell you how to do most things that you already probably know, but this one goes to the finer detail, to the most difficult and obscure tricks to solve the really hard problems, the ones that most manuals avoid or ignore.
  • I had spent several hours trying to get windows personalized the way I wanted. With the dummies book it took me less than an hour.
  • Pretty informative for me because I never learned the ins and outs of Windows 10. It gets repetitive about some fairly simple stuff. The print in this book is pretty light and it’s difficult to see.
  • Wow, talk about a necessity…This book is for people who have used earlier versions of Windows and who don’t realize how different Windows 11 is!!! Windows 11 has some improvements, but it is far more hardware and software restrictive. This book helped me get adjusted to 11, but I am really frustrated by the lack of drivers for printers (my old HP) and fingerprint recognition devices.Microsoft has screwed us again!!!This book will help you understand the changes and navigate through the maze of operation in Windows!!!
  • This book is written in the same easy-to-follow manner as his Win 10 and Win 8 books. He takes you step-by-step with everything you need.Highly recommended for the typical user.
  • About to upgrade to windows 11. Always have my dummies book Bible on hand. Great no nonsense info.
  • Have used this series for other helps with excellent results. I’m a senior citizen, and found not as simple instructions as in years past. Probably just so much more technical and author had to address all features.
  • I have just received the book today, very fast delivery as usual as well as excellent value, I was surprised by the weight of the package, on opening it I did think Mmm maybe I will stick with Windows 10 for a little longer. But having read the book for the last hour or so some of it has stuck in my mind, I have had a computer now for 10 years and to be quite honest I know as much now as I did then. But this book is very comprehensive and I think I will stick with it and change to Windows 11 in the New Year, may I wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy prosperous and safe 2022. Terence F.
  • This is far and away the most comprehensive of the win11 books that I have found. It’s got at least twice the number of pages of the others I looked at. However, the first three problems, issues and tasks I looked at appear not to be mentioned anywhere and the fourth though in the book was a one paragraph item that did not help in any way and had me remembering the horrible ways Apple explains stuff on their help forums…It’s something along the lines of:Q. How do you switch this on/off?A. You slide the switch on/offBut where is the effing switch?
  • Arrived within 24 hours. Decent value. A useful and interesting read for a non-techie like me. BUT it has not convinced me of the need to rush out and buy a new laptop. I will be sticking at my age (of 77) with my Win 10 Home non-compliant LT, which very well serves my needs and wait to see what the inevitable Win12 will bring. Regards DBS
  • A useful teach yourself book, serving as a good introduction to the changes introduced in the latest edition of Windows . Being an average PC user, it certainly afforded me a very good introduction to the latest Windows operating system. Being a basic guide, though, do not expect it to cover all of the topics you may wish for.
  • Not as precise as other Dummies books i have used. It bounces around quite a bit but the guidance is there.
