Design for How People Learn (Voices That Matter) PDF AZW3 EPUB MOBI TXT Download

Products, technologies, and workplaces change so quickly today that everyone is continually learning. Many of us are also teaching, even when it’s not in our job descriptions. Whether it’s giving a presentation, writing documentation, or creating a website or blog, we need and want to share our knowledge with other people. But if you’ve ever fallen asleep over a boring textbook, or fast-forwarded through a tedious e-learning exercise, you know that creating a great learning experience is harder than it seems.  In Design For How People Learn, Second Edition, you’ll discover how to use the key principles behind learning, memory, and attention to create materials that enable your audience to both gain and retain the knowledge and skills you’re sharing. Updated to cover new insights and research into how we learn and remember, this new edition includes new techniques for using social media for learning as well as two brand new chapters on designing for habit and best practices for evaluating learning, such as how and when to use tests. Using accessible visual metaphors and concrete methods and examples, Design For How People Learn, Second Edition will teach you how to leverage the fundamental concepts of instructional design both to improve your own learning and to engage your audience.

  • About the seller experience: (please scroll down for book review)I thought I was purchasing a used copy of this for roughly $15 through Amazon. However, I must have chosen a “rental” by accident. It was not clear any where in the details that I was choosing a rental.Upon receiving the book I though I purchased, I received a rather used and worn book. Odd, I thought, and started to read and mark-up the book as my own. Weeks later, I received a notice that my “rental was due.” I was dumbfounded since I thought I had purchased a book. Since I marked in it, I had to pay another $15 to “buy out the rental.”In the end, I’ve paid $30 (the full retail value for a NEW book) for a heavily worn rental.Amazon, please make your website more clear! What a frustrating experience.About the content:Beautifully written. Engaging. Helpful. Human. The author distills best-practices in learning design into bite-sized, entertaining chunks of learning. Her book itself is a masterclass in how to create an informational book which won’t bore the reader. I highly recommend the book for any educator or learning designer!
  • As a former teacher and current instructional designer, I love this book. One it is easy to read- there are instructional design books with paragraph after paragraph with few black and white images. Then, there is this book designed by an instructional designer where the page layout actually helps you learn-novel idea. I’ve sat through many PDs where they tell you how to teach using a PowerPoint. She uses what she teaches you About how people learn to teach you. Seems like a no brainer, but severely lacking from those who teach others how to teach. One of the best books I’ve read on this subject.
  • I purchased Design for How People Learn by Dirksen with very high expectations. She didn’t just deliver, she exceeded them. This book is the “full package.” It relays very helpful information about designing curriculum with great images and interesting science. But Dirksen’s content is often funny too, making the educational experience of reading her book actually fun. I am suggesting this book to everyone I come across who wants to design better learning experiences, whether in education or health care.
  • I am a lead instructional designer for a medium size business and have been designing e-learning, hybrid learning, and face-to-face learning for over 10 years. And I cannot recommend this book enough!!! It is perfect for ANY designer, whether you are just beginning or are an expert in your field. I bought this book to see if it could help my newer designers and I am picking up tips that I have forgotten about or never really thought of before. It is a great refresher for those who have been designing for years and a clearly written book for those who are a novice to the industry. If you are an instructional designer or are even thinking about designing, buy this book!
  • This is a fantastic book! I first listened to it on Audible and then later decided I wanted a physical copy. However, you have to watch out to make sure you are really buying the book and not renting. I do not remember ANY indication whatsoever that I was renting not buying when I purchased this book. If you accidentally rent, later you have to pay even more to keep the book you thought you bought! It was expensive for a used book, too. I thought I was buying from Amazon (I always use Amazon Prime) but the seller was RentU. I’ll be more careful when clicking “Buy Now” in the future. If I want to borrow, I can go to the library for free instead of paying over $30!
  • I had to buy this book for a class, but it is unlike any textbook I have ever used. I actually enjoy reading it! I would even consider reading it for fun, it’s that good! Not only is the information in the book absolutely fascinating (just read chapter four. I will never think of memory the same way again!), but it is presented in a way that is humorous and engaging. I wish Julie Dirksen could write all of my textbooks!
  • Even though I have a degree in psychology I learned something on just about every page. The way it is written makes it interesting, lots of graphics and examples. Some books on this topic are too academic and boring, but not this one. It is written in a way that the author is putting into practice what she teaches. It is engaging. I read it all the way through. I plan on using the knowledge gained this book in my own courses to help learners be fully engaged in the content. Def worth the read.
  • First, I have to admit that I didn’t make it past the first chapter. I flipped through the other chapters but only really read the first. The information is based on research and talks about the research but the graphics are so annoying and add absolutely nothing. I checked a number of times, first reading the written information then looking carefully at the graphics to see if there was any information contained there and there wasn’t. It’s as if the authors think you won’t read any information unless you’re entertained by pictures. I found it very distracting and couldn’t continue. I’d be very interested in a version of this book without the graphics so I could focus on what the text is saying.
  • After reading a few other books about learning, I discovered this one. It took me longer as each chapter was to be studied, understood and absorbed. I just finished, but will read it again.I read on kindle, but will buy also a hard copy. Each with its advantages. Now, I really understand how much goes into creating a good learning experience for adults. A book I recommend to many who teach, train, create any material.
  • This is an easy to read, practical and engaging book, there is so much learning and insight throughout. As a training coordinator I now carry this book around with me daily. Well worth the investment and time to take the learning on board.
  • Have not read book properly yet. Just from a little browse it seems ok.
  • The book gives a complete basic to mid level understanding of instructional designing. The examples ,the metaphors, situations and scenarios are absolutely flawless in their explainations and i would recommend to read this bookif you are planning to pursue a career or get better in your existing instructional designing skills.I would’nt recommend anybody to read this book as a novel but read it chapter wise to try and absorb your understanding of the subject.5 star’s. Thankyou
