UPDATE!!! – This book is absolutely amazing. From someone who had never even owned anything but a simple point and shoot digital camera you see any teenager with, I had absolutely no knowledge on my camera nor did I have any knowledge on what goes in to making a properly exposed picture. This book literally explains all. It does bounce around (given the topic I’m not surprised) but even though it bounces around it will point you to what ever area of the book has more info on its topic or info previously covered incase you forgot. This book is the holy grail for this camera and I honestly feel like the maker should partner with canon to include it with the camera purchase. I bought this book with the intent to make a “field book/ cheat book” for easy general info when I’m out shooting away from home. Going through this book, taking notes, and learning what all my camera does and can do is amazing. It does things that I didn’t even know cameras could do. Things I thought you could only do through editing. This book leaves no stone, however big or small, unturned. If you want this book just to try to skip straight to shooting in manual, you are doing yourself a big injustice. In order to understand the camera and the exposure fully and properly you must start with the basics that come with the automatic functions. Which the book happens to start out with. There’s so many pictures to explain what it’s talking about so there’s no confusing while reading. If you own this camera you NEED this book!Original Review:So far as the book itself it’s so easy to understand. It breaks down everything to literally the point a “dummy” can understand it. It’s in a very easy to read format And from the start I’m learning stuff I either didn’t understand In the manual due to wording or just plain out not being able to easily find the information I want. I’m new to this and purchased my Cannon rebel T7 to take pictures of my daughter growing up. I’ve always had a fascination with cameras but as a beginner I need the terminology broke down and explained and this book does just that. I haven’t finished the book yet, I’m just beginning, however the amount I’ve learned from the first 14 pages is insane. Please start shipping in a box not a bag. I’m very OCD about books and because this was not properly packaged the book came with dents and dings on the cover and spine. I was a little upset about it.
Disappointed as it is not any more clear than the manual that came with the camera. I don’t feel it is simple enough for me. I guess I am a real dummy.
Like any Dummy book it has its limitations but for a novice photographer this book got me into using the new camera in a hurry.(Well, eight hours of reading hurry). I Learned to use the Rebel camera using this manual much quicker than trying to muddle through the Cannon manual. It was a life saver as I had only a limited time to learn the camera before a trip to Alaska. Got great pics on the trip because I knew something about what I was doing thanks to this book.
I was hesitant to buy this book after I read some reviews. Yes, everything you need to know is in the manual. But this book explains things in very simple terms for a DSLR beginner. I am really enjoying it and it’s helping me take better photos already as I learn how to use the camera. Highly recommend, even if you downloaded the Canon manual!
The book made my head spin in the beginning, but once I figured out the basics it was huge in helping with the advanced features of the camera. My first real camera and I am very new to photography. Good book.
I readily admit that I’m a total novice/amateur when it comes to photography. Like so many people, I wanted to venture beyond the camera on my phone so I bought a starter camera from Canon. It’s like learning an entirely new language so books like this go a long way toward getting you through the sometimes intimidating prospect of a camera that isn’t point-and-shoot. The key to this book is to read and highlight each chapter slowly with your camera by your side. Don’t just read the book, but follow the steps outlined in the book on your camera. And don’t be afraid to try what she is telling you to try. You won’t break anything. If your photos don’t come out you can always erase them — no harm, no foul. But if you take our time and work your way through the book, you might become a better amateur photographer.
I had a Canon AE SLR in the 80s. This my first NICE DSLR since then. I love manuals, still I ordered The Dummy Book (haha). All of the computerized gizmos were a learning curve, but the various filters, lenses, cleaning items, tripods were good (the tripod on is perplexing me, maybe I need something additional when I use the long telephoto lense!) I get the shots I want. I haven’t yet tried editing in camera because of my vision. Battery power good but I haven’t had to use camera a Lot at one time. I did order 2 extra (for total of 4) so I never have to worry. In 3 months 889 photos I’m just now half thru second battery (and I forget to cut it off, it does time out.) It’s good for me, an experienced casual photographer.
Excellent, basic book. I approached my learning like I knew nothing. The first few chapters were repeatable upon what I already knew, but the author builds upon it smartly. Unless you fancy yourself a pro, a think most amateurs could fill in the missing pieces of their learning.
So glad I brought for my Canon, one would of expected a manual but no 2000D is in this book and there are many easy tips that covers most of.What is not covered which is a few areas You tube has on there.Recommended
A really excellent book about the Canon EOS 2000D. A comprehensive treatment of the operation and use of this superb camera, starting initially with the basics and moving on to more sophisticated operations as you become more experienced.
It is a must have book for a new born photographer
Everything you need to know about setup, features and techniques. The kind of Guide you can pick up and discover the answers to things that may be puzzling you about your new camera. Clear, concise and delivered in logical sections.
