The layout and content of the study guide is fantastic. The content is also fantastic! The explanations included in the ‘answers’ sections of the practice tests are insanely helpful! Unfortunately, the many formatting errors make the book difficult to follow at times. Here are (a few) examples.Page 104, (picture shared), typos in the math. [“1” is incorrectly typed at “11” two different times]Page 242, says biometric tech assessment is based on “four major measures.” The first two are explicitly highlighted and outlined (e.g. “the first type is…,” “the second type is…). The second two are not and must be inferred.Page 266, says “clustered systems” were discussed earlier in the chapter. They are not actually discussed earlier in the chapter (perhaps they are, but “clustered systems” is not used in the discussion).Page 566, Explanation to question #6 has a period in the middle of a sentence.Formatting issues like these have made it quite difficult to focus on the material, and caused me to spend a lot of time trying to figure out what’s what, flipping between pages, etc.
The company booked us for a Sec+ bootcamp and between 9 hours a day in class and professor messer on the ride home… I felt something was missing. I bought these books solely for the practice questions, and I’m glad I did. The questions were worded and organized almost exactly the same. It helps with thinking and processing the “best answer” questions. It was with the money and I believe was crucial in my passing the exam on the first attempt.
I am new to the IT world. This book is horrible! I have the book written by Ian Neil and this book was way better than this book. Author does not how to write a book. He does a poor job describing terms where I often had to look at the other book (Ian Neil) where Ian Neil describes the term in a few sentences and to the point. The author wants to up-sell you in buying video on LinkedIn as well as another platform where you pay for videos. They way the book is written, I wouldn’t want to watch his videos at all. This guy really sucks as an author. I want to write to him and let him know this but I have to be nice. There are questions at the end of each chapter. He says to get a 90% or better or re-read the chapter. If that is the case, I would have to read the chapter twice or three times. Like I said, I had to go to the other book of mine to review what this author was trying to say. I’m totally pissed that I wasted money on this book. There are other reviews about this guy going deep into subjects where it just doesn’t relate to or need to be in the book. They were right! I should have taken the other reviews and not bought this book. I’m on chapter 9 now and I don’t want to go further with this book. SAVE YOUR MONEY!! I haven’t used the practice questions book yet, but I will re-read Ian Neil book and then tackle the questions without finishing this book. This book doesn’t even get one star from me. Sorry Mike Chapple but you cannot write a book, period! Best of luck to those taking this test. You have been warned, just sayin.
About halfway thorough the guide, I realized that a lot of extraneous and unnecessary information was littered throughout the guide. Acronyms that aren’t even listed in the CompTIA objectives are used. The course is hard enough without having to pick through what is relevant. Many of the review questions are poorly written; even after looking at their answer I was still confused. I also bought this thinking the two books were written to be compatible; they aren’t. The guide goes all over the place, while the practice test at least goes in order of the domains. Nonetheless, still good information – you just have to weed through a lot of irrelevant stuff in the guide. The practice test book is the only reason this review of the “kit” doesn’t get 2 stars…
This certification is basically worthless is the cyber security world these days. Get a cissp.
I passed the test using this information, but you may not be as lucky. I studied this book thoroughly over the course of several months, daily. The book does a decent job of covering most topics, but like other have pointed out, there are many typos, discrepancies, and some missing information. I was unfortunately blindsided by a couple questions during the certification that were either not covered, or not covered enough. This book could benefit from a thoroughly reviewed Third Edition.
Bummed doesn’t even cover how I feel right now. I bought these books at the end of 2020, and then because of personal circumstances was unable to start studying when I originally wanted to. I FINALLY was able to start in on the study materials and went to register my book so I could have access to the online resources, and found that exactly where I would need to get the answer to the question there were misplaced pages. The book jumps from page 52 to page 281, then 312 to 85. And because I bought it so long ago I can’t return it.Definitely won’t by buying more Sybex study materials. I am not risking this happening twice.
There are better books out there. Doesn’t go over concepts before the section review questions. Some of the answers are wrong in the back of the book. Lots of typos out in the book.
Came quickly, in perfect condition. I’d bought this not knowing whether I’d actually want to pursue certification and I haven’t read it yet, but from the contents it looks like it covers so many of the questions I’ve been having in my quest to learn how to build useful and secure systems without being too intimidatingly technical. Very excited to dive in!

It is a wonderful tool for the Sec+ cert. Much nicer than having to deal with online resources.
