I work as a guard and I am looking at learning cybersecurity and need the Security+ among others. I bought this book as the guy was the best seller for the past three versions of Security +. I found that the information is not direct enough, terms are scattered all over the place, didn’t serve me well. There is information not in the syllabus as I referenced terms against the CompTIA pdf. There are quite a few terms in the syllabus missing. The attached image talks about paid internet access, this will not certify you.There are only multiple choice review questions and I was getting doing well enough on these, but when I went to the exam center and took the test it was a disappointment, for those that know, these testing vouchers aren’t exactly cheap! The questions are for elementary school and the exam is at college level if that gives you any idea. I found myself getting exam questions and I had no idea what was being asked.If you have very little experience don’t buy this book or you will fail like me.The McGraw Hill book was not great but it was better than this one. Lesson learned. I now need to find a better resource. I think I will buy CompTIA material after all.
I read three different books cover to cover to prepare for the 601 exam, the W Conklin book, the official comptia study guide and this book. I found this book by Darill Gibson to contain the best presentation of the material out of all of them. Hard to believe he’s only charging 9.99 for the Kindle edition, he could easily charge more for the value this book provides. The book is chock of full of quality content from the thorough explanations, great end of chapter questions, pre and post assessment questions, the key “remember this” notes and the end of chapter summaries which are very useful in final preparation. I love in his end of chapter questions that he explains not only why the correct answer is right, but why the other answers are wrong. That really makes a difference in understanding and I didn’t see this level of detail and care in the other sources I used. Also thanks so much for not having any significant grammar or spelling mistakes. The other study guide books I read are chock full of them and make them look unprofessional. I recommend pairing this prep material with Jason Dion’s practice exams and I think you’ll be well on your way to being prepared for this exam.
This book has way to many pages to read, by the time I would get the end of it I would have to read it again just to make sure I understand what the author is trying write about then by that time SYO-701 would be out.
I used two books to pass the Sec+ 601 test. This was one of them. The other was Security+ 601 book (MacGraw Hill). Unlike the MacGraw Hill book this book bunched like topics into the chapters and was not laid out perfectly by the exam objectives like the MacGraw Hill books. While I used both books to max effect for maximizing studying, I referred to this one mainly because it was easier to read and I thought had less fluff in it. Looking back, if I had to only buy one book for test prep this would have been it.
I just passed my Security+ exam yesterday with and this book was my main study resource. I spent the last couple weeks reading it cover to cover and taking handwritten notes which helped tremendously. I would definitely suggest using other resources like videos or Udemy courses as well, but for me a book works best and I believe this one helped me pass the exam.
Excellent Book, a must if you plan on taking Security+601 exam. The material is very well put together, and it will want you to learn more.
This book is well written for people that want an overview in security for example the lady that bought it to pass her CySA exam, strange choice, but not for the SYO-601 exam. My co-worker who recently passed the Security+ exam has said end of chapter questions and well below the exam level and are super easy to give the reader a ‘feel good’ factor.There are topics missing from the test, it has been written with 501 in mind and not 601. Information is scattered everywhere and topics are very vague. This technical book has no glossary, you need to pay for it – who does that to a reader? You have to play extra for flashcards and the better exam preparation materials. Money grabber.This book WILL NOT certify, the McGraw Hill book has been recommended as a better alternative.
I dont even know what to say. This book is virtually impossible to read and useless. I gave it a shot because it was recommended by Amazon, but I really don’t understand how others found this book useful. The information isn’t presented in any form of useful way when it’s compared to the test. The exam didn’t line up whatsoever with the teachings from this book. Back to trying to find an actually useful book and videos. Also, if you look at the number of 5 star reviews there’s only 2 that say they passed and I should have looked at that before buying. Not sure why it’s so highly rated honestly.
The book is huge and has a lot of reading material. The printing quality is excellent. I am yet to check for voucher code and exam voucher of 10% off.
Most of the links to free extras points to the older revision SY0-501. If I do manage manage to find any SY0-601 links then those aren’t complete. Disappointed.
The book does not look like original, it looks like a photocopy book. There is no any voucher/coupen inside the book to get a discount for the exam.Moreover, theres should be some online annexes, however there no weblink indicated to download them. Where are these online annexes???
